Rob Roy Glacier walk 7 November 2008
A cool sunny day a few days after an unusually late fall of snow and too much time watching the US elections – a perfect day for one of the very best walks in Wanaka.
Why?
- A magnificent valley – the Matukituki, surrounded by snowy peaks
- A walk through beautiful beech forest and past groves of hoheria glabrata clad in fresh spring lime green leaves –like the area on the Routeburn called the Orchard
- Following the course of a beautiful aquamarine rushing stream whilst listening to the song of the rifleman, the most beautiful tiny little native bird
- To a magnificent hanging glacier where you sit and wait for the next thunderous roar and watch the avalanche roar down the mountain
- And eat lunch whilst getting close and personal with a very wily kea
What better way to restore the soul.
